the changing colours of its fruit/ have dowered the stars with merry light...

The ways of Elfwood are ineffable strange. My very first ticket was processed within a day. The second took 12 days.
Well, but it got accepted, so who's complaining? Not me...

And OME, I so want to be in Amsterdam on September 9th! Anyone up for a short summer trip to the Netherlands?

[By the way, what sort of obsession does Yeats have with the word "gyre"?]

I could tell you a bit about Yeats...he developed his own mythology and symbolism for his poetry, so when you read it, you have to be aware of what the symbols stand for if you want to fully understand it. The gyre was a central motif in his mythos, which stood for a lot of things. He believed that histroy occurred in cycles of 2000 years, and the gyre stood for these cycles. As one era wound down, the other era began to come into force. The first main known symbol of these 2000-year cycles was the Sphinx. As the Sphinx era was winding down, the era of Christ was winding up, and 2000 years after the Sphinx came Christ. So we should now be living in the era of Christ winding down and (I think) the anti-Christ, winding up. That's a very simplistic explanation of it, I know there's a lot more. When you're reading him you should just think of cyclical time.

Phew. *g* Hope that's satisfying somewhat.

That sure explains why he mentions the "gyre" in every other poem ;)
Thanks!
