Look, let's try a very simple philosophical game. It's called Aristotelean Syllogism.
Melkor/ Morgoth has (or had, anyway) the rank of Vala.
Sauron is a Maia.
Maia does not equal Vala, therefore Sauron does not equal Melkor/ Morgoth.
Amazing, huh?

In other news, -ndil means friend. -ndur means servant. A name ending in -ndil does probably not mean "servant of -". Because then the name would end in -ndur. Now my Quenya skills suck, but they suffice for this; but there may be people who don't know that, and they might just believe what you said in your encyclopedia.
You can skip this problem by chosing "devoted to" instead of "servant", because you can translate both -ndil AND -ndur as "devoted to". Ain't that cool.
By the way, Sauron doesn't mean "the cruel one". Yes, I know that the sources speak of "Sauron the Cruel". So what? Just because there are people named "Tom Miller", that doesn't mean that "Tom" means "Miller", now does it?
CHECK THE ORIGINAL LANGUAGE. I don't care how Wolfgang Krege or Friedhelm Schneidewind translated it. Frankly, both are extremely unreliable.
Also, if you write Númenor fanfic, which is great because I love Númenor, please don't have Sauron accept the name "Sauron", or, worse, introducing himself as "Sauron". Sauron means "the Abhorred". Now I don't know about you, but I wouldn't want to name myself "the Abhorred", really. Sauron has a bunch of different handy names - Annatar is one you really should know - and I think he would chose a name less negative than Sauron, if only to make people forget who he really is. I think I remember Zigûrun as a possible name. Or Artano. Zigûrun is probably best because it's actually Adûnaic and not Quenya, which should probably fit Númenorean tastes better at the time Sauron is there.

Sauron bedeutet "der Verdorbene". Ich weiß nicht, wie andere das sehen, aber ich würde mich nicht freiwillig "der Verdorbene" nennen. Sauron hat eine Menge praktischer Namen - Annatar solltet ihr nun wirklich kennen - und ich glaube wirklich, er würde da einen netteren whlen als Sauron, und wenn er das nur täte, damit das Volk vergisst, wer er wirklich ist. Ich bin ziemlich sicher, dass Zigûrun möglich wäre. Oder Artano. Zigûrun ist vermutlich am Besten, denn das ist sogar Adûnaisch und nicht Quenya und passt also viel besser zu Númenor zu dem Zeitpunkt, wo Sauron tatsächlich da ist.
