Star Wars!
Jan. 1st, 2020 09:31 pmSo I finally got to see The Rise of Skywalker! My gut feeling throughout the film and out of the cinema is that I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were a few elements that I didn't like, but on the whole, it was everything I was hoping for and more than I expected.
Additionally nice: We managed to find an afternoon showing in English (+) and 2D (++). A combination of the two is a rarity these days! It was made possible by the Cinedom's "luxury theatre". We laughed at the "luxury" part - until we entered the theatre. Twice as much space, rows so wide you can pass each other without getting up (you could have pushed a wheelchair through there!), spacy reclining leather seats... excellent. Will store this information for future reference.
Interesting observation: I had read a couple of spoilery reviews, heard my brother's in-depth rant, and picked up a couple more things through dashboard osmosis before I went into the film. Didn't ruin it at all; the story still managed to surprise me. The husband was unspoiled, and said that the plot moved too fast and the characterisation was too superficial. With such a fast-paced film with so many things happening, it isn't bad if you already know parts of the story so you can focus a bit more on what's going on...
But for those who haven't seen it and want to remain unspoiled, the rest of my unsorted thoughts goes under the cut.

( Spoilers spoilers spoilers )
Definitely the strongest part of the trilogy, but not perfect.
Oh, and my brother felt that John William's score was tired and leaving much to be desired. OK? I liked it as much as ever. I'm easily pleased.
