Yesterday was my brother's birthday, so the family had to gather, albeit with a somewhat streamlined cast - "only" the grandparents (i.e. my mother's mother and my father's father), my dad's youngest brother with wife and son (who finally talks - in German and Portuguese), Jörg, my brother, me and our parents. Between my grandmother panicking because it was raining and she was there by car and wanted to get back home (about an hour's drive) before nightfall (which, even in late November, was still two hours away at least), my grandfather telling jokes he'd told us all a thousand times before, my uncle asking when I'd finally be done studying and what I planned to do afterwards, and my brother telling Jörg about some Firefly sighting in Battlestar Galactica, it wasn't too bad. At least my grandmother and my grandfather didn't get into a fight about politics (as she's on the right hand of the political spectrum and he's rather leftish, as soon as politics enter conversation, they'll end up in a fight).

My mother was worried because she wasn't certain whether I was still vaccinated against tetanus, and while she'd found about a dozen copies of my vaccination passport, none of them listed a tetanus vaccination after 1992. I was supposed to have the original (which I don't). I was also fairly certain I'd been vaccinated in either 2000 or 2002. But there was no proof, so I was asked to visit them again today for the vaccination.
I'd miss kendô practice yet again, but fine. While I was still convinced that I should still be protected, I kind of realise that it's better to be safe than sorry.

So I got there today after work. My parents were both at work, so I thought I'd just go and have a look at the drawer in which my mother keeps the vaccination passports again.
And what did I find?
A yellow vaccination passport bearing my name - and, among many other things, the information that I had been vaccinated against tetanus and polio on June 24th, 2002.
Meaning that I am still protected as far as these things are concerned.
And the bloody certificate was right where it was supposed to be. I didn't even have to look hard!

In other words, an evening wasted, and I could just as well have gone to practice and not thrown over my schedule yet again. But of course I'll cheerfully drive around just because my mother, despite allegedly having searched several times, couldn't find the darn documentation.

Eh well.
