Or, hurrah for Jörg!

So a sports goods shop around here is doing a spring sale and I needed new running stuff anyway. Accordingly Jörg and I went there after work. I found lots of awesome stuff, and we returned to the drizzle on the streets in high spirits.

Now admittedly I was wearing dark blue jeans and a dark grey coat and because of the drizzle I had pulled the hood over my head too. Still...

Fortunately Jörg noticed the red van that I didn't notice and that didn't notice me, and fortunately he grabbed my arm and pulled me back just in time. The van skidded to a halt a few meters after passing us; it would doubtlessly have hit me, probably broken some bones, possibly worse. As it is, I'm fine, the driver was terrified and apologised profusely, and poor Jörg's arm was numb for a bit (he injured his spine during jûdô training a while back).

I have a thousand cheesy little thoughts in my brain. As I am embarrassed when I grow cheesy, I'll end on a cynical note instead.
Wouldn't it have been ironic if I'd just bought some lovely sports clothing and then got hit by a van?

Ein Hoch auf Jörg!

Aalso, ein Sportgeschäft bei uns in der Gegend hat Räumungsverkauf gemacht und ich brauchte eh neues Laufzeug. Also sind wir nach der Arbeit da hin. Ich habe einige tolle Sachen gefunden, und wir sind gut gelaunt wieder raus in den Nieselregen.

Nun trug ich zugegebenermaßen dunkle Jeans und einen dunkelgrauen Mantel und hatte wegen des Geniesels auch noch die Kapuze übergezogen. Trotzdem...

Zum Glück hat Jörg den roten Van bemerkt, den ich nicht gesehen habe und der mich auch nicht gesehen hat, und zum Glück hat er meinen Arm erwischt und mich zurückgezogen. Der Van ist dann ein paar Meter an uns vorbeigeschliddert; er hätte mich definitiv erwischt, vermutlich ein paar Knochen zerbröselt, möglicherweise schlimmeres. Stattdessen ist mit mir alles okay, der Fahrer ist leichenblass gewesen und hat sich entsetzlich entschuldigt, und Jörgs Arm war eine Weile taub (er hat sich bei einem Jûdô-Lehrgang vor einer Weile die Wirbelsäule verletzt).

Ich habe hundert kitschige Gedanken im Hirn. Da ich es peinlich finde, wenn ich kitschig werde, ende ich stattdessen zynisch.
Wär ja zu ironisch gewesen, wenn ich mir gerade neue Sportklamotten gekauft hätte, um prompt sportunfähig zu werden.

Das war aber knapp. Ich bin froh, dass dir nichts passiert ist.

Hoffen wir mal, dass diese Art Ironie eine Möglichkeit bleibt und nicht Realität wird.

My senior year in high school, a friend of mine was hit by a car and killed when she didn't see it coming while crossing the street. So thanks to Jörg for catching you! :)
