Heroes really intrigued me in the beginning, but currently I'm just watching it (2nd season; this is Germany after all) in hopes it's going to get better. (Actually today's episode did pick up a little.)
Meanwhile I spend my time facepalming at the incongruities.
Hîro saying (well, writing) something like "It was our kiss that tore time apart" is rather like Sam in Osgiliath going "We shouldn't even be here by rights". DAMN STRAIGHT. In the 17th century, Japanese couples wouldn't be kissing. The concept of kissing would be known already in a general way, but not commonly, and it certainly wouldn't be fashionable. (Random aside: Do you know what was, to all intents and purposes, the first kiss that happened in the Japanese language? It happened when they first translated the New Testament into Japanese. Since that kiss was a betrayal, it didn't do much to popularise kissing in Japan... Today kissing is kind of en vogue, seeing how it's done in all the cool Western movies, but it's not a traditional thing. Not at all. Not even hand-kissing, even less lip-kissing.)
Hîro teaching a 17th century Japanese girl to kiss, therefore, is indeed tearing history apart - far more than his changing of a legend they made up for the series anyway...

Yes, yes, I know, nobody likes the nitpicker.
BUT STILL!

Speaking of Bible translations, one might think that I'm studying theology this term. I only need to attend one seminar (and write a lot of papers) at this point, so I'm doing one seminar - Corpus Linguistics - with the correspondant lecture, and one Studies & Exercises class, English Bible Translations.
I had been fearing that Corpus Linguistics would be fairly dry and boring and just took it because it's taught by the professor I want to do the exam with, but turns out that we're not going to do presentations of studies other people did with corpora. No; we are going to compile our own little corpus! We're just around 20 groups with text samples of ~5000 words each, so it's really going to be a small corpus, but (if I understood it correctly) it will later on be part of a much more extensive corpus. So if there's ever going to be a Cologne Corpus of English religious prose, about 2500 words in it will have been transcribed and coded by me. Yays?
At any rate it seems that this is going to be an interesting semester.
... and a rather religious one.

Haha, no it won't. It will get on crack and then just fall apart. I only know one of my friends who still likes it, most of the rest have given up while sporking their eyes out.

Übrigens...solltest du das dringend auf englisch gucken. im netz oder so. Denn hiro und alle sprechen eigentlich wie es sich gehört japanisch...für das arme deutschland die zu faul zum untertitel lesen sind wurde natürlich mal wieder alles synchronisiert *rolleyes*

Hey, ich will niemandem was verderben. Aber mir persönlich gibt es zu viele Plotlinien auf einmal und zu viele gezwungene Cliffhanger. Wobei die heutige Folge schon wieder wesentlich spannender war als die letzten paar... trotz der Küsserei und Hîros historisch unkorrekten Schusswaffenkommentars.

Despite its obvious flaws (pacing! VOICEOVERS!), the first season of Heroes was the best, IMHO. I was hoping that the creative break enforced by the writers' strike would the production team to come up with a brilliant season three, but after four episodes or so, I'm not convinced.

As for the aspects of Japanese culture in the feudal age, well, let's just say that I was watching season two together with my friend ayumie , a former Japanese Studies major. Your nitpicking can't scare me now.
