They rise arse up, arse up, arse up
May. 25th, 2009 11:35 pmThis line seemed particularly appropriate in the light of the little great tit that, whenever I go to feed it, takes the first morsel of food, then turns around with much hopping and beating of wings, and then raises its little fluffy butt up high.
And then it poops, apparently expecting mommy to take the poop away. And come back with more food while she's at it.
Since Thursday it has turned from a scruffy-looking heap of growing feathers into a proper young bird with almost (or so it looks) full plumage and a very greedy little beak. It's grown bored of sitting on the ground, and, having mastered the art of perching, prefers to perch on branches. It is also very curious and watches everything that moves (to the point of being more interested in a fly trying to fly out through the closed window than in its food). It is also not the least bit shy, which I suppose will be a problem when it's old enough to return into the wild.
Since yesterday it has begun to practice flying, although currently it's more like jumping accompanied by frantic wing-beating in an attempt to trick gravity for a few moments. It doesn't really have mimics, but I could swear it looks smug whenever it's managed to reach another exciting branch.
Today has mostly passed in work, writing some fanfiction, and hunting flies. I guess I'll have to buy frozen pinkies tomorrow, as apparently the ants in our garden have caught up on the sudden tendency of their larvae to disappear. There are much less reachable ant hills than there were three days ago, and no more larvae anywhere underneath the rocks. Note: One tiny tit can change the local ant population within a mere three days.
Hope y'all had a nice lilac/towel day! I didn't eat a hard-boiled egg today. Instead I had a strange craving for Sapporo-style noddle soup. With extra-little soup and the wrong kind of noodles. Still tastes ok. Should've used more ginger and forgot the bamboo shoots, but otherwise fine.
Weekend was mostly spent working on the house despite heat-wave and general exhaustion. Some headway was made. On Sunday I skipped the construction site and went to the medieval market at the Eyneburg, which is just barely in Belgium. Nice, though not overly exciting. Enlo had made waaaay too much cake so we carried half our provisions back home again, even though we got the Irrlichter to help (we figured feeding the bards is always a good idea). A little less heat would've been good.
And now I go to bed.
Happy fandom day! :D
