But first: Quote of the Day!

(Queuing at the supermarket check-out, looking at an advertisement for - wait for it! - CURVED FRIES, how exciting - I overhear the following conversation between the gothicky teenage couple behind me.)
He: Der Wahnsinn. Fritten in Kurvenform. Welch eine Innovation. (My goodness. Curved fries. What an innovation.)
She: Ach, Kurven sind doch witzig. Ich könnte die Nullstelle und Höchst- und Tiefpunkt und Wendepunkte und so berechnen. (Awww, but curves are fun. I could calculate their root and maximum and minimum and inflection points and all.)
He: *laconically* Darauf hat die Welt gewartet. Mathe-Hausaufgaben zum Essen. (That's what the world has been waiting for. Maths homework you can eat.)
She: *cheerfully* Non scholae, sed vitae...

And a meme. (BTW, [livejournal.com profile] littleshebear, I'm still working on yours. It's harder than it looks like. >_>)

This one I caught via [livejournal.com profile] yoodi and [livejournal.com profile] vout.

1: Post this meme and your current wallpaper at their LiveJournal.
2: Explain [[livejournal.com profile] vout version: in five sentences] why you're using that wallpaper.
3: Don't change your wallpaper before doing this. The point is to see what you had on.

My wallpaper. Yes, Windows Vista. Shut up.

This is a vista (SEE WHAT I DID THERE?) of King's College in Cambridge (as seen from roughly across King's Parade at Great St Mary's IIRC), with the Chapel looming on the very right. I am currently using this wallpaper because I fell in love with Cambridge a little bit when I was there in spring. I think this photo is one of my best Cambridge pics, even though I would have preferred using a less well-known college for my desktop. It serves (or is supposed to serve, anyway) as a motivation to do study-related stuff like work on my papers, because duh, CAMBRIDGE. Doesn't always work.

And some fury.
Seen via [livejournal.com profile] flower_star: New baccardi ads are being particularly failworthy.
Flower and [livejournal.com profile] laurenia are already writing angry letters, I shall do so to when I have regained the ability to express my anger coherently. For now I can only say WTF. Oh, and FAIL. Massive fail.
*headdesks*

I'm going to sound like a complete ass now but...
I can live with vista, but please get rid of norton. Use antivir instead, or something, as long as it is not norton.

Now I am going to sound like a complete ass, but:
Would you mind explaining to the ignorant and technologically impaired, too lazy to browse through any expert forums just now, the problem with Norton?

Mathe zum Essen = made of win.

Baccardi ... I admit I'm tired, but I had real problems simply understanding the marketing message there. Words fail. Good thing there's no baccardi left in this household, I'd have to pour it down the toilet.

Yeah, that's where all the things lurk that I was too lazy to sort into more appropriate folders yet *shifty eyes*

I don't know what it has to do with Baccardi either. Except perhaps that you need to have drunk a lot of the stuff before dreaming up a marketing campaign like this?
Words are not the only thing that fails.
