A meme! A meme!
Jun. 20th, 2009 02:25 pmBut first: Quote of the Day!
(Queuing at the supermarket check-out, looking at an advertisement for - wait for it! - CURVED FRIES, how exciting - I overhear the following conversation between the gothicky teenage couple behind me.)
He: Der Wahnsinn. Fritten in Kurvenform. Welch eine Innovation. (My goodness. Curved fries. What an innovation.)
She: Ach, Kurven sind doch witzig. Ich könnte die Nullstelle und Höchst- und Tiefpunkt und Wendepunkte und so berechnen. (Awww, but curves are fun. I could calculate their root and maximum and minimum and inflection points and all.)
He: *laconically* Darauf hat die Welt gewartet. Mathe-Hausaufgaben zum Essen. (That's what the world has been waiting for. Maths homework you can eat.)
She: *cheerfully* Non scholae, sed vitae...

And a meme. (BTW,
This one I caught via
1: Post this meme and your current wallpaper at their LiveJournal.
2: Explain [
3: Don't change your wallpaper before doing this. The point is to see what you had on.
My wallpaper. Yes, Windows Vista. Shut up.
This is a vista (SEE WHAT I DID THERE?) of King's College in Cambridge (as seen from roughly across King's Parade at Great St Mary's IIRC), with the Chapel looming on the very right. I am currently using this wallpaper because I fell in love with Cambridge a little bit when I was there in spring. I think this photo is one of my best Cambridge pics, even though I would have preferred using a less well-known college for my desktop. It serves (or is supposed to serve, anyway) as a motivation to do study-related stuff like work on my papers, because duh, CAMBRIDGE. Doesn't always work.

Date: 2009-06-20 09:06 pm (UTC)Baccardi ... I admit I'm tired, but I had real problems simply understanding the marketing message there. Words fail. Good thing there's no baccardi left in this household, I'd have to pour it down the toilet.
