in case you managed to miss it:

Adobe is giving away Creative Suite 2 for free. Yes, 2 is an ooooold version (I think the most recent is 6?), but I presume it's still pretty damn good, and it's free and legal, so, hey. Don't say I didn't tell you.
(If the site isn't working, give it some time. Apparently, everybody wants free CS2, so the site is getting overrun.)

Never mind, apparently it's all a misunderstanding. :( Too bad, would've been exceedingly cool.

Other than that, oh crap, I still haven't written any of the 2012 posts I meant to write (including such exciting content as Felix' recent developments, Home Improvement Desasters of 2012, What We Did For Christmas and other smash hits. I'll never get those done, will I?)

I fell for it, too, unfortunately this is not quite true.

Aww, crap. Thanks for clarifying. I guess it really was too good to be true.

Even if it weren't a misunderstanding, it doesn't seem to run under newer windows versions. I tried earlier today and couldn't get it to install correctly. Pity, I'd really have liked a legit version of Illustrator for when Inkscape won't open a file... ah well.

Actually, I managed to download and install Photoshop CS2 no problem. Haven't tried anything else so far, though. :)

And Illustrator works, too.

I don't doubt that it works, if you're lucky; it's just (apparently) not entirely legal unless you actually bought a licence at some point. >_>

However, it's also apparently not quite illegal, either. They seem to be willing to just turn a blind eye to anyone picking it up "like that". Might play around with InDesign later.

Well, I think if they were really serious about "OMG illegal woe is me bad mistake on our part" they'd put a note on the download page or make you sign in with your Adobe ID or something. Many people won't ever read that forum post about how you really should have bought the product at some point. For example, I'd already downloaded and installed before I happened to see the link Chili gave you. If I didn't have time to read my flist today, I'd never have found out that Adobe's intentions may have been slightly different (at least originally).

*nods* I think if it was a mistake originally to make it available to the public like that, they should have run with it and enjoyed the positive publicity (and maybe made it available just for a limited time). Now half the internet is sporfling ...

My thoughts exactly. I'm not an Adobe customer. I'll never be a PS-Buyer - PS makes me want to trow my monitor off the balcony. But InDesign might be interesting, so I'll give it a spin. And they might convince me to buy it.

Oh, definitely. (Yesterday evening, when I still believed this was genuine, I admired the marketing coup -- surely, at least some people who got it for free might upgrade at some point?) It made them look cool and in touch with web culture. Now... not so much. XD

I posted it in work!FB and had to apologize for the misinformation today :S I posted a picture of a very pretty duck to make up for it.

I love Photoshop and Adobe with all my brand-loyal heart but InDesign wants to make me scream and kill things with blunt objects, and I got in two versions later than CS2. So I hope your experience will be different ;)

So, if you react to InDesign the way I react to PS... Hmmmm...

It's a great tool, no doubt, but it's really not intuitive to learn and misses a lot of small stuff that should be default, for example a word count. It also does not help that the symbols in Adobe programs like Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign are all the same but do completely different things xD

I won one of those introductory books from Gallileo Publishing a few years back, so at least I have some "help" going in...
