The younger classes at my school share a building with the local elementary school because the secondary school building isn't big enough for 500 kids. This generally works fine (the elementary school has its recess breaks at different times so there are no tiny 1st graders colliding with pubescent 7th graders in the basketball court etc), except for the janitors, because the elementary school janitor simultaneously claims not to be responsible for the secondary school parts of the building, while at the same time keeping the keys and tools needed from the secondary school janitor. But other than that, no problem. There even are two different speaker systems, so the elementary school doesn't have to hear our announcements or bell (because, as I said, they have different recess - and thus, class - times) and vice versa. There's an override to the separated speaker system for announcements that concern both schools (e.g. if there's a fire), though.

Now today, the elementary school apparently have their carnival party. For the occasion, they played party music on the speakers...

... of both schools.
That's right. They accidentally (?) used the emergency override in order to blast carnival music (which is designed to entertain a) preschool age kids and b) badly drunk adults) at both the dressed-up, eager to party elementary school kids, and the unprepared secondary students poring over their maths problems or English negation or whatever else they were doing.
And now nobody knows how to stop it, except by stopping the music and spoling the elementary students' fun.

I suspect our kids are going to be treated to a surprise! party for the rest of the elementary school day, because we can't possibly expect them to learn with that racket. Unless the janitors somehow get their act together for once.

My dad (who also works in Westphalia) always claims that carnival is completely unknown in the region, but clearly that isn't true. The elementary school, at any rate, is definitely aware of the custom (and clearly willing to share :P)...

When I was that age, I was immature enough to have thoroughly enjoyed the unexpected party atmosphere and the hilarity of being distracted/interrupted all day by the raucous music. Adolescents like nothing better than chaos-at-school! For the sake of the teachers, I hope it gets fixed.

I hope your students aren't too heartbroken at the impromptu day off.
