Yesterday was my cousin Timo's confirmation. It was... ok. The service was all right except for the psalm they had chosen which might just as well have been written by George W. Bush himself, for the pathos they had apparently borrowed from the Catholic church around the corner, and for the fact that the reverend was lisping and shouting (well, not shouting, but it was obvious that she was at home with speaking loudly enough for everyone to hear, so everything she said appeared very strained and, well, shouted). But she certainly gets an award for the First Use Of The Word "fluffy" In A Sermon That I Know Of.

Otherwise, well, as these family meetings are. Amusingly, Timo wore the suit that my godfather, his stepfather, had worn for my mother's wedding. Timo isn't really tall. Apparently, my godfather was a rather small 22-years-old when my mother wedded. (Eru gracious, he was as old as I am now. And as tall, or rather, small, as Timo is now.)
My grandmother, as usual, had very firm views on everything and anything. It's impossible to discuss with her; either she weaves all your arguments into her view of things and refuses to understand what you're trying to say, or she sees your differing opinion as a direct attack on her, doesn't even pretend to listen and refuses to understand what you're trying to say. I love my grandmother, but she's stubborn and so conservative that, on the political spectrum, on her right side there is Nothing.

Gestern war die Konfirmation meines Cousins Timo. Es war... ok. Der Gottesdienst war in Ordnung, wenn man davon absieht, dass der Psalm auch von George W. Bush selber hätte geschrieben sein können, dass sie sich offenbar von der katholischen Kirche um die Ecke ein paar Tassen Pathos ausgeliehen hatten, und dass die Pfarrerin gelispelt und geschrien hat (naja, nicht wirklich geschrien, aber es war offensichtlich, dass sie nervös war und nicht wirklich laut reden konnte, so dass alles, was sie denn sagte, sehr angestrengt und, naja, geschrien wirkte). Aber sie kriegt jedenfalls einen Award für den ersten mir bekannten Gebrauch des Wortes "knuffig" in einer Predigt.

Ansonsten, naja, wie diese Familienfeiern halt sind. Amüsanterweise hat Timo zur Konfirmation den Anzug getragen, den mein Patenonkel, sein Stiefvater, zur Hochzeit meiner Mutter anhatte. Timo ist nicht wirklich groß. Offenbar war mein Patenonkel ziemlich klein für seine 22 Jahre, als meine Ma geheiratet hat. (Eru Grundgütiger. Er war so alt, wie ich jetzt bin. Und so groß, oder vielmehr so klein, wie Timo jetzt ist.)
Meine Oma hatte wie immer extrem starke Ansichten zu jedem Thema. Es ist einfach unmöglich, mit ihr zu diskutieren; entweder versteht sie alles, was man sagt, als Beweis für ihre Meinung und weigert sich, auch nur ein Wort dessen, was man sagt, zu verstehen, oder aber sie sieht jedweden Protest gegen ihre Meinung als direkten Angriff, tut nicht mal so, als würde sie zuhören, und weigert sich, auch nur ein Wort dessen, was man sagt, zu verstehen. Ich habe meine Oma wirklich lieb, aber sie ist erzstur und so konservativ, dass rechts von ihr nur noch Wand ist.
