I thought I'd escape the Fandoms meme but now
majinbakahentai has tagged me. All right, I surrender...
1) Total number of fandoms I like:
Hm. Tolkien; Star Wars; Japan; Harry Potter; His Dark Materials; Sandman; American Gods; Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy; Good Omens; Discworld; Memory Sorrow & Thorn; Otherland; Schreckenstein; Pride & Prejudice; Banana Fish; Blade of the Immortal; Strangers in Paradise.
Makes 17. Like, mind; I'm active in far less fandoms.
2) My first fandom ever:
Too be embarrassingly honest: Wickie und die starken Männer. I don't have the slightest idea what the American version is named if there ever was one; the original version's name is Chiisana baikingu Uiki, bwaaahahah. Anyway, the tv series about Wickie, the little viking. Yeah, that one. I was six and wrote my first fanfic ever. The plot sucked and of course there were Mary Sues. But hey, I was six and proud of being able to write at all...
Or maybe Jim Knopf came even earlier? *not entirely sure*
*cough*
3) My most recent fandom:
That would be American Gods. Eru, does that book ROCK.
4) Five fandoms that currently mean a lot to me: with explanations
Star Wars - well, the movie just came out and is not nearly as bad as my snarky version seems to imply. The old trilogy is gold. And I liked parts of Episode I, if only because OME Qui-Gon Jinn = TEH HOTS. Obi-wan/ Qui-gon - search your feelings. You know it is true. Also, the X-wing series and the books by Timothy Zahn are excellent, and some of the New Jedi Order aren't altogether bad, either.
The Silmarillion - deep, massive, mythical love. The whole thing, with particular love for Fëanor & Sons [Maedhros/Fingon = OTP!], Beren and Lúthien (yes, Lúthien is a Mary Sue. I still like her.), Túrin Turambar and Eärendil. Númenor - should almost be listed separately because I was into the Akallabêth when I was still fighting with the complicated construct that is the Silm. Isildur! Elendil! Sauron! Ar-Pharazôn! Míriel! Darkness! Satanism! Tsunami! Whee!
The Sandman - Ah, the genius that is Neil Gaiman. Who would have thought that comics might ever captivate me like that? Brilliant. If you haven't read them, do. Even if you don't like comics.
His Dark Materials - My godfather gave me the second book for Christmas some years back. It's this book that got me into fantasy. I read the whole book that evening, got the first book for my birthday and had to wait FOUR FREAKING YEARS until finally the third book was published. Hell, I tell you. I wasn't entirely happy with the third book (probably due to the expectations that had build up during the four years of waiting), but by now I love it just as well as the other two. And yes, that is where my affinity for the name "Lyra" comes from.
A draw between Harry Potter and Discworld. Really, I can't decide. Originally, I shunned both because they were so over-popular. Then I was on vacations with my host family and had nothing left to read and bought Sorcerer's Stone out of pure boredom and got hooked. As for Discworld, it was recommended to me by several people of whom I knew they generally shared my reading tastes, although they warned me I might not like the humour. I asked whether it was the sort of humour you find in HHGTTG; they said, sort of; I tried it; I loved it. As mad as it's brilliant.
Oh, and of course, there's
desperatefans. Just when I thought that whole nights spent in the chatroom were a thing of the past and when I thought I had to bury Fëa because Entulessë died down. Hah. Oh, you should all come and join, because I say so.
5) Tag 5 people to put this in their journal:
Hah! Difficult, because most people I know already did this. Hm. You know what? If you feel like it, do it. Although I'd really, really like to read
seefuchs' answers. You hear me? *poke*

Kommt halt drauf an.
