Yeah, I know, I did this a few years ago already... but since so much has changed, I cave in and do it again.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] malicedl and [livejournal.com profile] ladymiriamel, this time.

a. My username is ____ because ____.

b. My journal is titled ____ because ____.

c. My subtitle is ____ because ____.

d. My friends page is called ____ because ____.

e. My default userpic is ____ because ____.

a. My username is oloriel because I actually wanted 'lyra', but it was taken (and the journal was purged the very evening after I registered, grr!), so I had to look for something else, and I ended up with the Quenya translation of 'dream-maiden' because I'm a useless dreamer, I am.

b. My journal is titled You can't look dignified when you're having fun because a) I love the X-wing series where Wes Janson says these very wise words and b) it's fitting. I am 22; you don't dress up when you're 22 (unless you're in Cologne and it's February). You behave and act your age. Well I don't. Dressing up for movies, singing loudly (and wrongly) and bouncing around is FUN. So I don't appear like a grown-up. Who cares?

c. My subtitle is I hold with those who favour fire because I always need some random poetry quotage. This one is, of course, from the poem Fire and Ice by Robert Frost. I like Robert Frost, but I mainly picked it out of my obsession with Fëanor. And because I simply like it.
And yes, I know that it's 'favor' in the original. But I tend to use the British spelling on words like favour and neighbour. I'm evil like that.

d. My friends page is called Strangers from distant lands, friends of old because I not only need random poetry quotage but also random Tolkien quotage. And this quote (Elrond's Council, of course) seemed fitting for a friends page.

e. My default userpic is changing all the time, but right now it's the little boy dressed up as an angel on a bike from the Everything is Illuminated trailer because I like it, and it's non-threatening and vaguely funny and vaguely sweet and vaguely artsy (or so I think) and I just felt like using it as my default icon for a while. Subject to change, of course; it's likely that in a few weeks, I'll have a new default icon. Such is life.

... wow. I don't think I was supposed to write an essay on that.

Glamdring. Sure, I can do that - what script? Cirth (the angular runes) or Tengwar (the roundish letters as seen in the icon)? Normal Sindarin mode or Beleriandic mode? Anything else?

Tengwar please. I honestly don't know the diference between Sindarin and Beleriandic mode, which is part of why I wanted to beg you to do it... you know enough to ask questions like that.

So, what's the difference, and which do you think would be more appropriate for putting on a sword blade?

Well, the 'normal' Sindarin mode uses accents-like marks for the vowels - the script on the One Ring, for example, is written in Sindarin Tengwar. (Well, not quite, there are some changes from the general Sindarin because it's actually Black Speech there, but, you know. Basically.) Beleriandic has extra symbols for the vowels; it is used on the gate of Moria, for example.
As for appropriateness... hm. As Glamdring was, according to The Hobbit, once Turgon's sword, forged by the Noldor in Gondolin, it's likely that they would have used the Noldorian mode (i.e. the one with the accents for vowels). But then again, it would be more likely that the sword of a member of the royal house of Gondolin would still have a Quenya name, and Glamdring is very much Sindarin...

... I hope I'm not confusing you too badly!

Again, these considerations are exactly why I asked you. I knew that your knowledge of such things runs deaper than my own... I haven't read the Silmarilion since I was in high school, I think... and I wanted the opinion of an expert.

And her caligraphy, too. 8)
