A Weekend in Helm's Deep
Apr. 6th, 2003 06:15 pmImagine a castle, built in the 12th century, somewhere in the Hunsrück. Imagine 19 LOTR freaks who know each other from the web and want to meet in person once again. Imagine the latter rented the former for a weekend. Imagine the castle is absolutely theirs, except for two hours when the count whose castle it actually was led a group of tourists through it. Imagine climbing the old walls, role-playing around and within them, dressing up, fencing, dancing, generally doing the sort of things many people would consider crazy. Yeah, that was my weekend. And it was fantastic.
There's something for running around in medieval-style clothes. There's something for having a sword at your side so you have to consider how to move without knocking things over. There's something for cold stone halls heated only by a big fireplace, so you have to skip places regularly because at the fire it's too hot to stay there for longer and in the back of the room you freeze (except when you move, so you move a lot). There's something for spontaneous role-playing in the darkest hours of the night (whose bright idea was it to climb the tower at 3 am?!). *happy sigh* There's something for Aditu's hookah - I want one! *g*
I shot lots of fotos, which is both good and bad - good because so I have the pictures of this weekend, bad because I rely to much on these actual pictures and neglect those of my memory, especially those I didn't photograph. I wish there was a camera that could record feelings - the adrenaline rushs, the fun we had, the surprise when you realize you can see in the dark better than you expected, the goosebumps, the heat...
Same for smell and taste.
Some filmed, particularily for Ring*Con, which was, among other things, the motivation to do the "Time Warp" in the big smoky hall *giggles at the thought*.
I want to go back to Veldenz! A weekend can be so darn short.
*sigh*
