A different sort of wishlist
Jan. 19th, 2004 04:48 pmAnd Ilúvatar spoke to Ulmo, and said: 'Seest thou not how here in this little realm in the Deeps of Time Melkor hath made war upon thy province? He hath bethought him of bitter cold immoderate, and in years to come, the snow and the ice which come from this shall be of grave danger for Men, who, even after all this time, shall not come to understand the purpose of winter tires, nor shall they be able to drive their cars upon the frozen ground and snow-covered streets without much toil and peril to themselves and their kin.'
Now.
I wish it weren't so apparently hard for people to finally understand that the most characteristical quality of the wonderful season of winter is cold and snow. I wish they had learned that winter returns every year, as do the cold and the snow, in spite of global warming. Then I wish they might for once think of putting winter tires on their cars before it's snowing and too late. I also wish that people who dare not walk because of the ice wouldn't drive, because if you can't walk you can drive even less. I wish they'd just drive instead of braking all the time. And I freaking wish they wouldn't cause traffic jams even in places where there is no snow at all (except maybe the rests that fall off cars' roofs).
I love snow. It's beautiful and soft and fascinating and I can think of a whole lot of fun games and sports that depend on snow. But I really wish my fellow people weren't so damn stupid and desperately incompetent in its face.
That said.
Sorta embarassing. Niehaus-sensei asked
kaneda, Becker-san and myself for our hand-outs, and we all said we'd turn them in tomorrow. Now unfortunately it was the general deal that you turn in your hand-out a week before your presentation, i.e. last Thursday, in our case. Which he reminded us of. I apologized, which Becker-san echoed, and for some stupid reason, both of us made that little Japanese standard bow (the one for "apology: not-so-bad crime, to placate opposite") to go with it. Gaaahk. Ah well, Niehaus-sensei laughed his ass off, so at least he's not angry at us. *cough*
Japanese is contagious. Just wait, soon I'll start saying the opposite of what I mean and always smile, the angrier I am, the brighter...
Which leads me to the next problem, for now I have to finish the hand-out tonight. Which means I definitely can't go to the English showing of RotK tonight, and since
daydreamersrest isn't there on Thursday when we had planned to go, we won't, so I can't see it then either. Ngah. I just wish people would think of things like this before I get my hopes up.
Gotta work now.
On a more positive note: If all works out well, I'll be moving soon out of that dark lightless hole in Cologne. *beams* I wish that it works.
