...and almost what you might call normal, though not normal for me.

Slept long (that was the unproductive part); then I made scrambled eggs with bacon and onions and tomatoes for breakfast because we hadn't got anything else left. Then we brought our broken-down DVD player to Media Markt (never thought I'd ever enter this Hall of Collective Stupidity, but I did, and they didn't even seem that stupid. Note to self: Never judge stores by their publicity campaigns). Then we went to another store to buy a new keyboard and mouse for me (optical! wireless! yay!) and a carpet at IKEA. Upon returning home, Jörg remembered an invitation from a former co-student who has just gotten his doctor's degree [I even knew sad former co-student in context with a can of dry ice, but that's a different story to be told another time], so we drove to Cologne for barbecuing and having fun at the expense of the guests watching the soccer game between Germany and Latvia. It ended in a tie, and judging by their expressions, the game wasn't exactly what you'd call great. The later game (Netherlands vs Czech republic) went to the Czechs, who won 3:2. So now everyone is panicking how Germany isn't even to get beyond the preliminary round. However, so far the points are 6 to the Czech republic, 2 to Germany, and one for the Dutch and the Latvians each. Which means that so far, "we"'re in. It is, of course, a precarious situation; if the German team manage a tie against the Czechs on Wednesday, and the Netherlands and Latvia also tie, Germany is in the quarter finals; if the German team beats the Czechs, which is, admittedly, unlikely, the Dutch and the Latvians can do what they want; and if the Czechs beat our team up as they did with the others, then it's going to be really interesting. But either way, nothing's lost just yet. And I really don't know why I'm writing all this, because usually I don't give a damn about soccer and them game results can go right to the data nirvana. Maybe I just want to test my new keyboard. That must be it.

Back to geeky terrain, where I feel more at home: Watched The Fifth Element yesterday. The first time I saw the whole movie and not just some bits and excerpts. I'm damn glad that I didn't know before PoA that Gary Oldman played Zorg, or I would have had Sirius doubts about the choice of cast, and that with Gary Oldman being so brilliant. I'm also delighted about Ian Holm having played that Obi-Wan Cornelius what's his name priest guy. Funny, really, how actors I "never knew" before seeing them in my bits of cinematic obsession now pop up in "older" movies.

I'm babbling. I'm off to bed.
