oloriel: (shoebox_project marauders by green_queen)
I wanted to be a good girl and go to Kendô practice yesterday, but I had to visit the WG aforehand because I had forgotten to give the Pride and Prejudice DVDs to [livejournal.com profile] eliathanis on Friday. And when I was there, they recruited me for the Japanologists' end of semester party. Since my motivation to go to practice was very small to begin with (Shame on me! Ashes on my tomatoes!), they were succesful.
Next shock: You had to dress up. Not much, but it had to have something to do with Japan. Well, I had my hakama with me, of course, so I donned it. Looked sort of strange, hakama with an ordinary top, but there's no way I wear that thick keikogi when there's 30°C outside. [livejournal.com profile] seefuchs, [livejournal.com profile] kaneda and [livejournal.com profile] malicedl gave the Three Unifiers of Japan, so they just made little name tags "Hi! My name is Tokugawa Ieyasu!" (or Oda Nobunaga, or Toyotomi Hideyoshi, respectively), like those things you get in support groups, out of Kanji flash cards.
Next shock: We had to get there by bike. Four people, three bikes. [livejournal.com profile] malicedl took me on the carrier of her bike although her rear wheel couldn't be inflated properly. Still, riding on a bike's carrier through summerly Cologne, clutching my hakama so the rim wouldn't get into the spokes, trying not to fall off and to listen to the others at the same time, that's an experience I'll happily add to the "weirdities of student life" category. [And if you make us male and the bikes broomsticks, we're so the Marauders. Yesh.]

The party as such was nice, although I noticed again that I'm not really party-proof - gimme something to eat and to drink, some place to sit, and I'll stay there all night. And keep me away from books. I'm not much into the dynamics of parties - "the migration", as [livejournal.com profile] kaneda, who had the same problem, called it. Eventually I joined the group around Niehaus-sensei, to whom [livejournal.com profile] seefuchs told all the stories from the House of Incredible Events, and who reminded me that he still had my term paper and certificate out of the Cultural History seminar last semester. I left around 10 pm, though, because I didn't want to leave the cats alone for too long again (the last two nights, I'd never returned before midnight, and they had been really pissed about that. Literally.)
It was fun, anyway.

And yay! my backwater home town is holding a medieval festival in two weeks! I hope I can convince Jörg to come there, because it sounds like lot of fun. Including the first Viking Tent Race World Championship (whatever the hell that may be) and the first International Long- and Riding Bow Competition. Ah, that I had a horse and a yumi! Or maybe only the yumi, because I can't ride anyway. Then there's a bards' contest and a tournament and of course the usual market and tavern stalls. Actually I hope I can motivate some more people to come there, because it sounds great and it's in my stupid little home town and I'm a sucker for medieval festivals anyway.

Finished "Of the Beginning of Days" today and already sketched the cover for "Of Aulë and Yavanna". Yowza. Taking care of business.
