... when [livejournal.com profile] irony_chan posted in her [livejournal.com profile] get_medieval comic that she'd made a Christmas card "for anybody who doesn't like getting religion in their christmas", I was convinced that it was ironic. I mean, user name, and all that.

And then one user commented on that card saying "Happee holidayes" and how "holidays" was, after all, religious too: "But I did think the point was a card that got religion out of christmas."

*blink*
Look, I'm not a religious zealot or anything. Really. But... getting religion out of CHRISTmas seems a bit of an impossible mission to me in the first place.

(Yes, I know how it's meant. It's just a little pointless, isn't it? Either you don't celebrate Christmas but something else, like Yule or Hannukah or whatever that coincidentally takes place around the same time, which, however, is religious too. Or you celebrate Christmas even though you're strictly non-Christian, which sounds a bit pointless to me [simply because of the name], but hey, to each their own. Still, in that case people usually call it "holidays". Because you know what? Sending festive cards for no reason at all isn't all that common. - You should simply take over the German word for "holidays", that's what you should do. It's Feiertage. feiern means "to celebrate", Tage means days. Feiertage, the days that you celebrate. No religion in that!)

You know something really pointless? Now I want to make Elvish holiday cards. *facepalms*

... I guess EƤrendil or Maglor or Daeron or Maglor/Daeron could work.

Interesting point you have there... I've thought about that too, since I grew up in a family that has nothing to do with Christmas - we gather around the Christmas holidays to eat, drink and be merry, and we exchange gifts; but in fact it's just a way of meeting when everyone has a bit of free time to spare. In our case, "Celebration days" is indeed more appropriate.

And I did some wintry greeting cards with Elves last year, which worked quite well - might do it again this year, for my personal needs. :D Thanks for the inspiration.

Oh good grief.

I'm Wiccan. I'm pagan. I celebrate Yule. But I also celebrate Christmas with a christmas tree and bells and whistles and an angel on top of it, because there are worse things one could do than celebrate the birthday of somebody who told people to love each other.

Maglor/Daeron greetings cards? Sign me up!

I'll just take any excuse to eat chocolate and drink wine. Well, when I'm in the mood; some Christmases I've boycotted cos I simply wasn't. *grins*

You may or may not have realized that I'm a heathen. A while back, a friend and I were discussing heathen greeting cards, for holidays. Yule, of course, already has a heathen tie, as does Oestera, but what about renaming Valentine's Day to Freya's Day? Or the feast of the Ascention to "Conception of Sliepnir" day?

I had figured as much, yes *g* And yes, renaming the holidays you wish to celebrate sounds like a good idea. Whereas asking for non-Christian Christmas cards sounds... stupid? Either it's Christmas, then it's Christian, or it's Yule/Festivus/the Emperor's birthday*/just a random time for the family to come together, which is perfectly fine but needs seperate greeting cards.

Hi there. So sorry to bother you but I've just started a kyudo/kyujutsu lj-community and am searching for people who'd be interested in becoming its members. I found you through your interest for kyudo, so, if you're interesed, you're welcome to join [livejournal.com profile] kyudou. Kyudo is a wonderful art and, considering that there isn't much information on it (compared to other martial arts), I thought it'd be nice to have a place where kyudo-fans can share their experience/thoughts/sources/information. In any way, thank you for taking your time to read this and again I'm very sorry if this post bothered you.
