The boyfriend is cutting up metal plates for this year's jûdô club holiday camp. It's going to be Rome-themed this year and he intends to have the kids make loricae segmentatae. This is either going to be a desaster or an amazing event. Desaster is more likely.
But you never know.

Segmentata is a lot easier to assemble than mail. I think he can probably get at least some of the kids to stay interested long enough to finish.

... also... Just read your cartoon. It reminds me that, when I was living in Germany, there were things I missed, but couldn't say what they were, most of the time. Things that were just part of life in the states, but didn't seem to be around in Germany. Two of them which I eventually figured out were peanut butter and pickup trucks.

We have both by now (though, thank whatever Power there be, pickups are still rare). It has not been an asset to life.

As for the segmentata: Yes. Relatively. You try teaching it to a horde of 30 kids aged 6 to 12 (and getting them to actually do work on it that doesn't have to be un- and redone afterwards), and we'll talk again.

Kommt drauf an; ich mal die Dinger meistens bei der Arbeit *hüstel* und schaff dann so etwa drei verteilt auf die 8 Stunden, die ich da bin, aber die genaue Zeit hab ich noch nicht gemessen... >_>

"Spuren von Nüssen" ist so toll!!!! :-D Bin begeistert und werde vermutlich niemehr Müsli essen können, ohne an die gefährlichen Erdnüsse denken zu müssen, die sich unter dem Wall durchgraben ... MMMH, Erdnüsse ... vielleicht wäre doch nicht so schlecht, wenn sie von selbst zu einem kommen würden.
