Picspam III: Autumn in my little valley
Oct. 21st, 2007 06:39 pmYesterday morning we woke up to the first frost. Very a propos, as we had only the day before yesterday finally got our heating to work...
Considering there were only two or three incidences of frost at all last winter - ALL winter! - I take this as a good sign that this winter is going to be a bit more "natural" for this region.
Also, night frosts mean I should find out what to do with our medlar fruit.
It's cold and wet, bah, bah.
View towards the mill
Meet Alberta. Admire Alberta's winter fur.
There is a kitten hidden in this picture.
Our idyllic little river
And the Eifgen valley again
Yesterday while I was working in the garden, two backpackers actually asked me where the Road to Santiago was. I didn't quite know (as they came up from where it should be); I sent them on the way to Altenberg. That's the right direction, at least. (But let me add here that I find it very brave to go on a pilgrimage when the cold season begins. They'll be in the mountains in the middle of bitter winter, no?)
I have no idea what these plants are called, really. I've always known them as touch-me-nots.
These, on the other hand, are the last forgetmenots. And rush.
Ai! Laurië lanta lassi súrinen...
More idyllic trees
And one dead one
Postcards, anyone?
Experimentals
Did I mention I love high grasses?
The forest reclaims its own.
Mushrooms!
Formes fomentarius
Some random horse
Kitschy sky
Morning glory
The house, current state of affairs
Nasturtiums. They didn't survive the frost. >_>
Find the bug!
So that's what we woke up to.
The sunflowers, strangely, didn't mind.
Guess where the kittens tend to walk...
Across the road
Harvest still life. Now only the mangold, corn, lamb's lettuce and cabbage are left outside. Oh, and the medlars.
Well, and the frozen stuff.
Walnut branches
Landscape, la la
There. Medlar.
Find the heron.
The house from below
More idyllics
But innit pretty?
The lupines don't mind the cold, at least.
This looks like some strange kind of flower arrangement.
Cabbage! This actually comes from the time when I still had Villandry-esque ambitions for the garden.
Final picspam (for the time being!) later tonight. I think.
