If Rowling did just more than copy Enid Blyton and C.S.Lewis. If Shakespeare hadn't copied Kyd and Hollinshed and Saxo Grammaticus and a dozen other people. Good thing Anne McCaffrey invented the totally unique and original concept of people using dragons as mounts.
Frankly I don't give a fiddler's fart as to who she gets parts of her inspiration from as long as the result is an enjoyable captivating story written in decent readable style.
I am just so deeply disappointed by that series. Unimaginative writing, wooden characterisations and plot holes in which the Titanic could comfortably sink ...
I really, really wanted to like that series, because dragons and ships and history, oh my. But for me, at least, the series comes across like nothing but really, really cheap pastiche.
I've liked it so far and found it imaginative enough, nor did I find the characterisations worse than what's usual for the genre, so I'm quite happy with it. ;)
