Kind of an edit of the post of 9/10
Sep. 14th, 2008 12:27 amToday I was re-reading Sam Hughes "How to destroy the Earth" page because it's always a good laugh and I noticed the following:
Until a few days ago, the "Current Earth-Destruction Status" read:
* Number of times the Earth has been destroyed: 0
Today, it reads:
* Number of times the Earth has been destroyed: 1
Lo, lo, they're reacting!
Lol might in fact be more appropriate than "lo" though.
Read. Have fun.
I feel vaguely reminded of Douglas Adams: There is a theory which states that this has already happened.

In other news, purely hypothetically, if you happened to receive an invitation card to a wedding including a line saying, "R.S.V.P until September 14th", what would you do?
I'll tell you what the majority of our invitees did.
NOT respond is what they did.
Even those who obviously intend to drop by, because they apparently told my parents or my grandmother. Well, I'd like to be informed, because it's kind of not my parents' wedding. They're kind of not the people who have to book the restaurant. They're kind of not the people paying for the whole thing. HELLO?!
WHAT THE HECK IS SO DIFFICULT ABOUT GIVING US A SHORT CALL, CARD OR E-MAIL LETTING US KNOW WHETHER OR NOT YOU'LL BE THERE? Hell, an SMS would do.
I mean, it's not like we have to plan a dinner or anything.
I am half-tempted to tell any family member responding from now on that now it's too late, we already booked. Oh I'm sorry, you meant to come? I had NO IDEA! Do join us for the service though, the church is big enough!
ARGH.
EDIT: This does not go for people who told me online, or who let me know they can't definitely say yes or no yet. This goes to the people who didn't say anything. No "I got your card", no "I don't know yet but I'll try". That's fine, that's something you can work with, at least we can make a tentative list with that. But total silence? Not so helpful. And that's precisely what a large part of my beloved family did.
Eh well. Probably they'll all call in the course of the afternoon, and I'll be annoyed by all the phone calls. ;)

I got the last people telling me that they would not come (a tennis match, a business meeting) three days before the wedding.

Date: 2008-09-14 02:36 pm (UTC)On your non-replying-invited guests: I have to admit that I am not surprised. Many people don`t consider what might be best for the other side or they think communicating with your parents or your grandmother IS better. I also agree to the forecast that it will get worse.
I hope this does not become a stress source for you. Schwamm drüber!
