Kind of - but not quite! yet! - a meme.

Being my usual heretical self, I can't help but wonder whether it has to be Jerome, who made it dreadfully hard for coming generations of Bible translators who might've done a better job or the same job in a different language, and the canon/fanon wars that were sparked, centered on and affirmed by Jerome's Vulgate in the 14th, 15th and 16th century led to a lot of book and people burnings and other such things, because fandom flamewars are not, in fact, an invention of the Age of Internet, although at least these days you generally no longer have to take the "flaming" literally. Of course that isn't necessarily Jerome's fault, seeing how he was dead at the time. Perhaps he's still embarrassedly headclouding at translation errors he made, or at the intolerance of later churchmen, who knows. I do see why the Catholics would've made him the patron saint of translators. Still, couldn't the Secret Translators' Society or whatever have taken, I dunno, the deathday of Wyclif or Tyndale or Luther or someone instead?
Eh well. Losing battle.
So September 30th is International Translation Day. Seeing how I used to have aspirations to become a translatrix once upon a time (and I still wouldn't mind doing the job, if the opportunity arose), I naturally approve of this (if not exactly of the choice of date).
I also approve of Juno's idea to celebrate this by - translating something! Since I am a busy woman and translation is a tricky business, I'll be a copycat and steal Juno's idea in its entirety:
To celebrate ITD , I’m offering to translate three (3) true drabbles (=100 words) into German.
First come, first served (!):
Comment now, with title and link for your drabble, and let me know if you want me to try and achieve a true drabble in German as well, or if the word count of the translation doesn’t matter to you!
Because 3 x 100 words should be managable.
(I have no idea what I am getting myself into. I am horrible at writing drabbles. Let's see whether translating them is any better.)
