oloriel: (inception - reality is overrated)

... and get the hell away from university when Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is on TV, and, watching it, you first go "AAAAH that's designated for a museum will you stop touching it with your bare grubby paws?!"*, and then, when the office hour scene comes around, you think "God I HATE professors like that, will you bloody take care of your bloody students already?!"

Yeah. *facepalm* Note to self: It is a movie. It is not real. It is not realistic, nor meant to be. Shut up and enjoy the ride.

EDIT: --- LOL, there's a floor plan of the Wewelsburg in Daddy Jones' notebook. I NEVER NOTICED THIS BEFORE!

* One of my exam topics is Museum Anthropology, more specifically The Handling of Anthropologic Objects in a Museum Context. Granted, Anthropology ≠ Archæology, but one should think that with Really Old Stuff you'd have to be even MORE anal careful. YOU, Dr Jones, should damn well know better! Shame on you and SHAME ON YOUR HAT!

If we felt like really being charitable, we could posit that academia was a different place in the late 1930s. Also if I had that many students I'd probably climb out of my window too.

If I'd neglected my students who need signatures or advice in order to continue their degree for such a long time, I'd DESERVE such a crowded office!
Sad thing is, I know professors whose office hours look roughly like that, and who have roughly the same way of dealing with student requests - without the excuse of adventurous hunts around the globe >_>

I'm pretty sure that gloves were already known in the late 30s, though. *scratches head*

I'm just thinking of all the crap Schliemann and his consorts pulled, but that was 1800s... not really sure how they did in the 1930es.

No, I work in a little metal box in the U.S. (Ohio). :) I can't even see an office with windows from my office.

I saw Last Crusade during our holidays for the first time since ages and thought just the same way: "If I had that professor during my finals I would strangle him with his whip."

We're getting old.

Actually, according to my Intro to Anthropology professor, archaeology is a type of anthropology. :3

Well, naturally it is, in the sense that if all human activity lies in the anthropologist's scope, then of course human artefacts of the past are likewise anthropological...

... does that mean that I can apply for work in archaeological museums, too? :D

:DDD

Well, considering that he once threatens to blow up the Ark of the Covenant, I'd say that Henry Jones Jr's way of dealing with priceless artifacts has always been somewhat casual...
