... at least briefly before I find something new to bitch about, have a random cartoon!

Backstory (because there always is one): Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] dawn_felagund listed all the food she'll be preparing/ having for Thanksgiving. Among many other things, the list sported, I quote, "Medieval" turkey (duh).
Of course, a few people (including myself) wondered what a "medieval" turkey might be. Naturally I figured it was the recipe, but somehow my fried brain decided to come up with bizarre scenarios, such as a turkey all ready to visit one of the "Medieval Markets" we have around here (they tend to be fun, but about as medieval as, well, turkey. Or the baked potatoes you can get there.)
And because a medieval market turkey seemed to be more fun than feminist looks at the Canterbury Tales (at least those are medieval! :p)...
well.

I don't observe Thanksgiving, and certainly not this weekend (we have our own Thanksgiving, which we don't really observe either ;)), but my fingers wanted to do it. Besides, there are so many Americans on my f-list that someone is bound to be amused by this.

So, without further ado... have a medieval turkey!

I know, I know. >_> (See what I meant about terrible jokes, [livejournal.com profile] nelyo_russandol? ;))

Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans among you! And, um, Happy Impending First of Advent to the Christians. And Happy Impending Last November Weekend to the rest.

Oh, and Happy Birthday to my brotherthing, too.

That should about cover it.

OMG!! You were not exaggerating... about the jokes. I am awed!

No thanksgiving holiday for me, sadly. I live on the same side of the Atlantic as you do.

Harrrrr! :D

Yeah, I know. But never fear - looking at Hallowe'en, no doubt this custom will sooner or later sneak into our respective cultures as well ;)

Thanksgiving or not, drinking seems to be a good idea in this snow and cold. Maybe some hot mulled wine? Or to keep it medieval... mead?

;)

Mulled wine is perfectly period, too. So whichever you prefer ;)
Cheers!

Thank you for the well-wishes.

Your turkey is adorable, and I can't help but note the resemblance to tunics I've made recently.

You're welcome, though it seems they haven't helped?

You made turkey-sized tunics? ;) Actually I just chose that design as a handy shorthand for "medieval, dude", but it's true, there's a certain similarity...

*Giggles* Which is always good!

I'll have to take the Impending First of Advent to the Christians. And Happy Impending Last November Weekend to the rest.

OME. That's awesome! :D

Our "medieval turkey" was not nearly so exciting! It had neither sword nor embroidered tunic, and it didn't sing. It did taste quite good, from what my family told me.

You could probably make a killing selling this image as a Thanksgiving greeting card among U.S. nerds! :D

The sword would probably have posed some problems to the cook. I suspect a desperate bird could be quite dangerous even with a wooden prop ;)

*snerks* You think I should ask the SCA whether they need silly holiday cards?

Ha! Given their tendency to be free with their money, whether they need them or not, I'd bet there'd be interest! :D

When I look at that turkey, I can almost hear the Orff soundtrack... Although, come to think of it, maybe Orff's version of the Carmina Burana isn't your thing and you prefer the original tunes?
At any rate, I gather that turkey is not a teetotaller!

Heh, I like them both. I adore choir music, so Orff's got an advantage there, but I also like the original tunes (where I know them).
And no, that turkey definitely drinks harder stuff! Darn, I should've given it a tankard in the other... um... wing. :D
