Today I looked through the baby stuff we've so far been gifted and stuffed everything up to size 68 into the laundry and the rest back into the boxes. Mostly because I thought an overview of what we already have and what we'll still have to buy/wish would be useful. I suppose it was - clothing-wise, we already have everything that can be found on those handy "basic equipment for your baby" lists, and then some - which is certainly good to know. There's even a little snowsuit! A bit larger (if you go by standard size) than will likely be needed next winter, but better than too small, eh? So the only things we'll still have to buy are diapers. (Bad enough, I expect!)

It was also amusing to see the vast differences in baby clothing. For instance, I got all my (and my brother's) old things from my mom, which (aside from a few frottee rompers) is mostly hand-knitted or crocheted by loving aunts and grand-mothers (some of them no longer alive). I recognised a lot of it - not from wearing it (or seeing my brother, who was born one and a half years after me, wear it) but because later we used it to dress our dolls (yes, my brother played with dolls too)...
The things we got from Jörg's best man's side, on the other hand, is all name brand clothing because (and I quote) "I wanted to dress them so they looked cute". (Personally I would think that babies are sort of cute by nature, whether they are wearing 80s no-name rompers or Baby Gap, but what do I know...) Eh well, means that I won't have to buy expensive stuff. (On the other hand, I may end up looking like the sort of mother who buys expensive Baby Gap sort of stuff... :p)

What I found annoying is that many things have stupid messages on them, probably meant to look "cute" - but, much like Engrish, really just look stupid, even if they're grammatically more sound than Engrish. I mean, Graffiti is fun! We are the little graffiti artists.? Why do you put that on a baby romper? Or South-East Australia. Mein Freund Robbie. ... WHUT?! I mean, WHY?

Eh well. Can't change it :p But still, WHY?

And of course, half the time I had "OMG KAWAIIIIIII" attacks after looking at teeny tiny socks and shirts. So... tiny!

Also assembled the dresser/changing table (hence the laundry orgy - now I have someplace to put the things!). Jörg finds it a bit uncanny to have these things standing around now. On the other hand I can still move around and put IKEA things together now - in a month (or more) I'll probably be less, um, nimble. And if we have the furniture assembled already, any potential pollutants can evaporate now rather than when the baby inhales them. So there.
