Signal Boost: Save Smokey

Via lindahoyland. (It's not her kitten but she's brought this one to my attention.) Smokey is a young cat who swallowed some thread, which is now wrapped around his intestines and needs to be surgically removed. Owner can't afford surgery, so she's trying to get the money together via Gofundme. If you've got a few spare bucks and want to help try and save Smokey's life, the donation drive is here.

(Yeah, Smokey's owner needs to do better on phrasing and punctuation, but we can't hold that against the poor cat, can we.)

Whenever I read about things like this, I realise how lucky we've been with our cats so far. We regularly have bits of thread lying around as well as building materials and potentially poisonous plants both on the window-sills and in the garden, but they've never as yet touched any of that. Erm. *knocks on wood*

Ja, ich musste halt auch gleich an Rah denken. Sonst hätte ich möglicherweise auch gar nicht den Link verbreitet, aber da ich ja sozusagen mal einen ähnlichen Fall im Freundeskreis hatte, hat's mich gleich viel mehr berührt...

Ja, mir hat es da auch gleich einen Knoten in der Bauchgegend gemacht. Vor allem wenn ich dann auf der Seite lese, dass die Ärzte versuchen, die Operation zu verhindern. Bei aller Liebe, wenn die Katze Blut spuckt, also bereits irgend ein Teil des Verdauungstrakts perforiert ist, dann muss das schnellstens operiert werden, sofort!
Aaah... ich darf mich da nicht reinsteigern, ich hab das nicht in der Hand. Aber ich hab was gespendet.

Ich glaube, "vermeiden" ist da eher das richtige Wort, aber das macht es natürlich auch nicht besser.

Ich muss auch gestehen, dass das eine Geisteshaltung ist, die ich nicht nachvollziehen kann. Wir hatten ja im vergangenen Frühjahr ein ähnliches Phänomen - Katze verletzt, teure OP nötig, kein Geld da - und es war völlig klar, dass wir erst einmal die Einwilligung zur OP geben und hinterher zusehen, dass wir das Geld zusammenkratzen. Eine andere Option gab's da gar nicht...
Ja, wie du sagst, nicht reinsteigern, bringt ja nichts. Aber ich hab gesehen, dass du gespendet hast, sogar sehr großzügig. <3

Naja, bei dem Dollarkurs siehts mehr aus als es ist. ;)
Und ohne großzügige Spenden von diversen Freunden und der Leihgabe meiner Eltern hätte ich das damals auch nicht bezahlen können, also spread the love und so.

Thank you for sharing this. Reading the story made me think how easily it could have been Harry or one of my other cats when young.Smokey's owner said they were grateful for even $1 to help.

It seems to be possible to pay only with a card, is that correct? I read the terms first where it says Paypal is possible, but I can't find a link to it. Do you happen to know that, or know if I could donate directly by Paypal?

I've started my social life in the internet with being active in a large German cat forum because we had chronically ill and/or rescue cats. I've heard of a surprisingly large number of similar case before, and have been super diligent since then. Our old hands are uncomplicated with potentially dangerous things, but the current kittens discovered all kinds of new possibilities...
