CJRT has resigned as director of the Tolkien Estate. (As early as August actually. Multiple sources confirm so I guess this is not just a hoax?) It shouldn't be that surprising - he's 93 and hinted as early as April that Beren and Lúthien would probably be the last of his father's works that he'd edit and published - and yet... it is.

Well, this is certainly a gamechanger, isn't it, and opens up a whole new range of possibilities for the TV rights Amazon has bought. O.ó

Me too, especially considering the age he's already reached.
Well, maybe he has great trust that Priscilla, Michael et al will continue to make wise decisions. Or he's been overruled. Or he's sick and tired. We'll find out, I guess.

Nah, I was completely oblivious! But so, it seems, were the rest of the fandom. There was no official declaration (yet?) so we probably all found out at the same time!

It's certainly more watchable than the PJ Hobbit trilogy.

I suppose all that vigilance and irritation that came with the job must have been quite tiring! He's not really gone away, though, all the editorial work he did is still with us.

I'm not really worried about the TV series. They're bound to get some things right and some things wrong and, with that kind of budget, there should be good visuals. Maybe I'll get less philosophical if it should spin off into a full-blown Silm series?

I'm not sure whether this development will make it easier for fan films, though. I was sorry that that "Wings over Gondolin" project was blocked. "The Fall of Fingolfin" still seems to be coming along nicely, judging by Breogan's posts.

It must have been tiring for sure, but nonetheless, like Indy, I was pretty certain that he'd, how do I put this delicately, unwrap the Gift of Ilúvatar before he'd retire. Of course, all the work he has done so far remains, and I'm sure he might call the rest of the family if he absolutely disagrees with something they did.

I'm not that bothered either, since it isn't my main focus, and as you say, some good visuals might come out of it! A Silm series would be a lot more difficult to deal with, because I have so many powerful headcanons and beautiful fanfics in mind there. Wish we could apply for a job on the editorial team, if it came to that. XD

I never heard of either of these projects! Looks like I'm going to have to do some google-fu!
