Happy New Year folks! Have some art.

I had actually hoped to finish this in time for Christmas, but alas, it was not to be! Oh well. Technically, Christmas lasts at least until Jan 6, and this scene is set around the New Year anyway, so let's pretend that my timing is, in fact, spot-on. Honi soit qui mal y pense...

Every now and then, I feel compelled to make Sir Gawain and the Green Knight fanart. Also every now and then, I feel compelled to try working in coloured pencil. This - or rather last - year, these two compulsions came together. What can I say. I would probably have been a lot happier using watercolours. Some people can do brilliant things with coloured pencils, but in my hands, it just results in something out of a children’s colouring book. Oh well.

I’ve been meaning to do a graphic novel-style retelling of SGGK for years, but this (once again) showed me that I’m probably not the right person to do it. Never been able to draw horses, not even during my teenage horse-crazy phase. So that's probably not going to happen.

Anyway. Gawain, having feasted with Sir Bertilak and his fair lady, now riding towards his trial at the Green Chapel. Hasn’t slept much, possibly hungover, definitely suffering from existential dread, hoping against all reason that all will turn out well. So actually it’s a good fit for that New Year’s Day feeling! XD :P
