And with that, I return to the natural order of writing entries.

I had planned to chose the Disgrace topic, because that book hasn't been reviewed and interpreted quite as often as The Glass Menagerie. But the Disgrace topic was about communication difficulties, and I hardly knew what to write about that.
So I ended up chosing topic #2, "Discuss the themes of stillness and motion in Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie" because at least I had lots of ideas about that.
Strangely, so many people didn't know what 'stillness' and 'motion' meant that the supervising professor had to give translations. For 'stillness' and 'motion'. I ask you. Are they studying English or what?
Anyway, I ended up writing 9 pages of pretentious bullshit. Didn't have enough time to write more, so I probably left out all the important bits. Let's hope they buy it.
The translation business was slightly frustrating. I have no problem whatsoever with paraphrasing a German sentence in English; but literal translation? Not my cuppa. And they want literal translations, no elegant paraphrasing. So the results feel awkward and clumsy. I lacked four words so I guessed wildly; but I just checked my wild guesses in the dictionary, and they were all correct. Am slightly proud of that. Now if only these clumsy grammatical constructions are correct...

My head is empty now and I think I need a long vacation. Instead, I really really have to prepare the Dogon presentation and the Language Acquisition paper. Bah.

Und damit kehre ich auch wieder zu meiner natürlichen Eintragsschreibereihenfolge zurück.

Ich hatte mir vorgenommen, das Thema zu Disgrace zu nehmen, weil das Buch noch nicht so ausgelutscht ist wie Die Glasmenagerie. Aber das Thema zu Disgrace ging um Komunikationsschwierigkeiten, und da fiel mir kaum was ein, was ich hätte schreiben können.
Also habe ich dann doch das zweite Thema genommen, "Analysiere die Motive von Stillstand und Bewegung in Tennessee Williams' Die Glasmenagerie", denn dazu fiel mir wenigstens einiges ein.
Bizarrerweise wussten so viele Leute nicht, was die englischen Worte "stillness" und "motion" bedeuteten, dass der aufsichtsführende Prof (Dr Jahn) sie vor dem Plenum übersetzt hat. "Stillness" und "motion". Also echt. Studieren die jetzt Englisch oder was?
Jedenfalls habe ich 9 Spalten prätentiösen Unsinns verzapft. Hatte nicht genug Zeit, um mehr zu schreiben, also habe ich vermutlich die ganzen wichtigen Sachen vergessen. Hoffentlich fressen sie es.
Die Übersetzungsklausur war irgendwo frustrierend. Ich habe kein Problem damit, deutsche Sätze auf Englisch zu paraphrasieren; aber wörtliche Übersetzung? Nicht mein Ding. Und leider wollen die wörtliche Übersetzungen, keine eleganten Umschreibungen. Das Ergebnis fühlt sich linkisch und unbeholfen an. Vier Worte fehlten mir, da hab ich wild geraten; habe mein Gerate gerade im Lexikon nachgeschaut, und sie existieren tatsächlich. Darauf bin ich ein bissel stolz. Wenn jetzt nur auch diese ungeschickten grammatischen Konstruktionen korrekt sind...

Mein Kopf ist jetzt leer und ich brauche eine lange Pause. Stattdessen muss ich jetzt wirklich das Dogon-Referat vorbereiten und die Spracherwerb-Hausarbeit schreiben. Bah.


Die Ergebnisse gibt's in drei Wochen.

;_; viel weiter stimmt nicht und ich meinte wegen dieses Semesters und der ZP. Ich muß mir noch ganz viel Panik machen deswegen... wollte doch nur aufmuntern. ;_;

Ah, the paper that's not even written yet, yes... Heh, I'm afraid I'll finish it just on time so there's no time for proof-reading... but of course you can read it afterwards, to prepare me for whatever sentence the professor might pass on me...
