Also, falls irgendwer noch tiefe und wichtige Gedanken über Die Glasmenagerie oder Disgrace anzubieten hat, dann ist JETZT der richtige Zeitpunkt, sie abzugeben, bitte.

Die nachträgliche Weihnachtsfeier mit der WG war schön gemütlich. eliathanis hatte toll gekocht, und jetzt habe ich endlich mal Interview mit einem Vampir gesehen, wieder eine Wissenslücke geschlossen. Hat mir gut gefallen, auch wenn er mir stellenweise zu schwülstig war.
Außerdem habe ich einen bezahlten LJ-Account gekriegt *squee* und ein selbstgebasteltes Herr der Ringe-Memory *SQUEE*. Hab mich über beides fürchterlich gefreut; das Faramir-Memory, das elfy für Barbara gebastelt hatte, hätte ich ja gleich klauen können und jetzt hab ich auch ein einmaliges Nerdspiel! *knuffel* Und... 15 Icons! Yay! Jetzt brauch ich nur noch die Zeit zum Basteln.

Ansonsten bin ich furchtbar müde und schrecklich nervös, obwohl malicedl mich ja doch ein kleines bissel beruhigen konnte.

Bei dem Kanji-Test werde ich furchtbar pfuschen müssen.

And with that, I return to the natural order of writing entries.

I had planned to chose the Disgrace topic, because that book hasn't been reviewed and interpreted quite as often as The Glass Menagerie. But the Disgrace topic was about communication difficulties, and I hardly knew what to write about that.
So I ended up chosing topic #2, "Discuss the themes of stillness and motion in Tennessee Williams' The Glass Menagerie" because at least I had lots of ideas about that.
Strangely, so many people didn't know what 'stillness' and 'motion' meant that the supervising professor had to give translations. For 'stillness' and 'motion'. I ask you. Are they studying English or what?
Anyway, I ended up writing 9 pages of pretentious bullshit. Didn't have enough time to write more, so I probably left out all the important bits. Let's hope they buy it.
The translation business was slightly frustrating. I have no problem whatsoever with paraphrasing a German sentence in English; but literal translation? Not my cuppa. And they want literal translations, no elegant paraphrasing. So the results feel awkward and clumsy. I lacked four words so I guessed wildly; but I just checked my wild guesses in the dictionary, and they were all correct. Am slightly proud of that. Now if only these clumsy grammatical constructions are correct...

My head is empty now and I think I need a long vacation. Instead, I really really have to prepare the Dogon presentation and the Language Acquisition paper. Bah.


Results are due in three weeks.
