The exam began well.

To be exact, it began with 友達がくれた本は面白い。
The second sentence was less easier, and from then on I pretty much always knew one, guessed one, knew one, guessed one. Bah. If I guessed right often enough, I suppose it's all right.
I gave up hope to pass with a good grade. All I want to do is pass at all.

Yesterday was my father's 50th birthday, which we celebrated with dinner at the Daitokai. Oooh. You can't keep that food in your mouth as long as you want to. It's way too tasty and way too good (and way too expensive). Watching the cook (we had a woman of undefinable age between 25 and 55, wearing a Pikachu necktie and a cannabis leaf for a belt buckle) prepare the meal is already an experience, and eating all that good stuff afterwards is a revelation. *le siiiigh* If I ever grow filthy rich, I want a table with a heatable table top and a Japanese cook.

In other news, Kanji suck.

Dear Lower Left Wisdom Tooth,

No, this is not a good time to grow. No, really, I mean it. Stay where you are. Last thing I want now are aching gums.
Although the additional wisdom might be useful.

Yours,
Me.

Just typed all four Japanese texts for the oral exam. In Kanji/Kana and in Romaji. Why? Because I scrawled the yomikata in my book and I may not use my book so I should practice reading without furigana. Yes. And the Romaji-text is for Jörg, so I can read the text out to him and he can check whether I'm doing it all right. Aren't I brilliant.

Must admit, however, that the problems of old people, random scientific papers on traditional Japanese culture, a visit after a long time or Abe-san's ability to memorize first sentences fail to enchant me.

Am nervous, not only because of the exams, but also because of linguistics class tomorrow. Hope Prof. Phillips will not chose tomorrow to tell me my term paper sucks and I have to do it all again. Which is probably what he'll tell me, sooner or later. *sigh*
