A year ago this was already the middle of the summer vacations (as opposed to the beginning, as it is this year). The judô club was on its yearly summer camp, and because I had no vacation time left and thus had to work, I just went there for one evening.

And there I got the most romantic and yet not kitschy wedding proposal in the history of ever, as you may remember.

A whole year has passed since then. A whole year, and it has gone by just like that.
Due to stress and work and practice and my grandmother's birthday party this weekend we don't really have any celebration plans, but we've got tickets for the theatre tomorrow (Twelfth Night) and will finally, finally, FINALLY go to the cinema on Friday (third time for me this year, first for him) and see the new Star Trek, so we'll just declare that part of our anniversary celebration.

A whole year. Passed in an eyeblink. The speed at which the anniversary came around is almost more scary than enjoyable. Where has the time gone?

I'm afraid that as far as I'm concerned, your proposal story is now second-best. ;)

But you aren't kidding about how FAST the last year has flown by. This morning when I realized today was actually in July, I went O_O for a while at my co-workers. I'm glad it's been so lovely for you, though. :) Even if your old name was easier for us English-speakers to spell.

I bet it wasn't. Most English-speakers inexplicably seem to have serious problems with Umlauts... at least I got rid of that!

I tend not to pronounce umlauts properly (I may speak multiple languages, but French and Mandarin are a far cry from German), but at least I know how to type them! ü ö

The German ö is actually pretty close to the sound you have in RP "burn" or "purpose" - and even closer to what the French mean when they write eu. In my old name it was admittedly the short version, not the long, but you'd probably nonetheless be able to pronounce it.

It waaaaas. I spent the next days in a daze. Sometimes I regret that nobody took a picture of the moment - on the other hand I'm glad it was a private moment despite the horde of kids present!
And of course a picture can't really do the memory justice anyway.
