Long time no meme
May. 27th, 2010 10:26 pmToo tired for deep thoughts, too blah for an account of the past days, probably no-one's reading along anyway - time for a meme! All the cool kids do it.
In this case it's the icon meme you all know anyway, this time via
1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Woo!
This one hails from the olden days of RPGing at DesperateFans. I played (among other things, and dominantly) Fëanor, and for his user pics I used Johnny Depp. This is one of the pics I dug out for that purpose - the mix of pretty, snobbish and vaguely lascivious was quite suitable. His Silmarils are pastede on yey. Somehow I keep keeping this whenever I go on another (rare) icon cut. Nostalgia? Probably!
This is fairly obvious, I guess.
Cooking! Cooking is fun. I have three food/cooking icons, though this is no doubt the weirdest one. The artwork is by a fantastic Japanese artist who has apparently disappeared from the face of the internet so I can't show you the full picture. It is awesome though. It is apparently an illustration to a Japanese fanfic that I have not yet attempted to decipher. I assume what happened is that ickle Elrond (or Elros) did something that caused a couple of eggs to land on Maedhros, who is Not Amused. Maglor on the other hand seems to be amused (and gets ready to defend the twins if necessary?).
If this is not a motivation to learn Kanji, I suppose nothing is.
I discovered the original picture for this one via
Heh.
One of Jane Austen's less well-known works is The History of England from the Reign of Henry the 4th to the Death of Charles the 1st. It is exactly that - a summary of the history of England - but not nearly as serious as that sounds. Instead it's an extremely brief, snarky, tongue-in-cheek account, written, as the preface warns the gentle reader, "by a partial, prejudiced, and ignorant historian". (It also warns the reader that "there will be very few dates in this history".) It's hysterical and you should all read it, it's up at Project Gutenberg and it'll take only about 20 minutes (if you're a slow reader).
Anyway!
Claire said she chose this one because the commentary said that it was her fault (which it does, and I'm sure it was) and she doesn't know why, but it's probably an awesome story.
It probably was, but I can't for the life of me remember it. I can only guess. It must have to do with the DesperateFans chatroom. I suspect we were talking about our Elvish RPG characters; after that it gets hazy. Discussions about the virtual nature of the RPG setting? A crackplot? Elves in the Matrix? Linguistic concerns coupled with the usual DF... um... creativity? I have no idea. Must've been funny though.
Whatever the story behind this icon, I like it. I don't use it often here, but it's my icon on deviantArt.

There was something else I meant to say, but it slipped my mind. Eh well. It'll come back if it was important.
