oloriel: (... that should be made an lj icon.)

And it's an intelligent meme, too! Snagged from [livejournal.com profile] munditia. I'll just quote her so I don't have to come up with a rant of my own:

There's this Female Character Flowchart out there that I'm sure most of you have heard of already. If you haven't, let me sum it up for you: basically, all fictional female characters fall into stereotypes and aren't "realistic." Round-up here! Also, this flowchart is done in a way that basically anyone can be crammed into one of their categories, as long as you ignore the more three-dimensional aspects of her characterization and focus on the most two-dimensional details available.

Seriously, people who are much more articulate than me have ranted on this subject and explained why it's such a bad thing. That's not what this post is about. You see, this post? Is simply a chance for me to go through my LJ icons and post the ones that I have that feature female characters, whether by themselves, with other women, with men, or simply as part of a group (which wouldn't be whole without them).

Why? Because the thing is, these women are all awesome, in their own unique ways.

Icons! Female characters! And I love them all! Yes, even Pansy Parkinson! )

Lacking, of course, the most frustrating compelling character of all: myself. But I am not fictional. I think. (If I am, I want to know who the hell WROTE THIS SHIT.) Amusingly enough, though, I - who I probably am, as we have established, not fictional - would fail the first question on that flowchart. Carry my own story? Are you MAD?
I'd probably end up somewhere between Sweet Nerd, Bossy Girl and Tomboy, with a side helping of Damsel in Distress and/or Biological Timebomb depending on the day's events...
oloriel: (... that should be made an lj icon.)

Too tired for deep thoughts, too blah for an account of the past days, probably no-one's reading along anyway - time for a meme! All the cool kids do it.

In this case it's the icon meme you all know anyway, this time via [livejournal.com profile] coppertone:

1. Reply to this post, and I will pick six of your icons.
2. Make a post (including the meme info) and talk about the icons I chose.
3. Other people can then comment to you and make their own posts.
4. This will create a never-ending cycle of icon squee. Woo!

Cut because these things tend to get verbose )

There was something else I meant to say, but it slipped my mind. Eh well. It'll come back if it was important.
oloriel: (instead of sheep)

There are new developments on the construction site and around, but I am le tired. Also my shoulders and their connection to other important parts of my body hurt viciously for no discernible reason. Pain is much like after the pickaxe incident, except after the pickaxe incident I damn well knew why it was there, whereas now it is pretty random. Why, body? Why are you being a traitor when you know I can't not work physically? Because the cobbling has to be finished by next week. And cobbling is surprisingly hard, not difficulty-wise but strength-wise. Bah.
In other words, I need something to distract myself. Perfect time for a meme! Preferably one that doesn't take much of an effort.

Stolen from [livejournal.com profile] apocalypsos and [livejournal.com profile] weaverandom.

Yes, you're seeing right. And who's surprised really? Work replacement, and all that.

Snatched from [livejournal.com profile] kali921.
Reply to this post and I will pick six of your icons. I will request explication of same. Then make an LJ entry, talking about the icons; rinse and repeat for an epic cycle of icon glee.

This is going to be lengthy, therefore it goes under a cut. )

Namely, icons.

[livejournal.com profile] vout asked whether she might steal my "Only two meals away from chaos" icon. I made it myself, so that request made me happy, and it also reminded me that I made a bunch of book quote icons a while back and then stopped and forgot about them. Before I forget about them yet again, because it's unlikely I'll find the time to make more just yet, I'll throw them out to the masses.

Cut for the sake of your flists. )

I was in Tôkyô at the time I made these, which shows for how long I forgot they existed. >_>

Football is no sport for me. 2 x 45 minutes of PURE STRESS. My poor nerves! *fans self*

But - YAY SEMIFINALS!

- - -

To keep myself from dying of adrenaline poisoning or something of the sort I finally managed to go scavenging for Doctor Who screenshots to make the icons I've wanted to have ever since I saw my first episode of Doctor Who ever (which was last December). By now even lame German tv has begun to show Doctor Who (season 2, currently), and it so happened that "my" very first episode was on last Saturday. This time I even understood all of it, which may be because I actually saw the whole episode or perhaps because they were not speaking Japanese.

So I finally have this:

Arrr.
I still think there should be a Tooth and Claw/Silmarillion crossover. Is there one? If not, why not?
oloriel: (phantom of the anarchy)
... zome, I just uploaded my 100th icon. Which I never thought I'd reach.
BUT. I have 32 more! MWAHAHAHAHAH! ... erm, yes. We apologize for this outbreak.

Anyway, this calls for an icon même. Anyone know a good one?

I have new plotbunny icon. Huzzah.

Because Izanami/Izanagi=OTP.

I can't believe it took me so long to notice that Japan is the result of twincest. Why? Because, according to Shintô mythology, the Japanese islands are the children of the divine twins Izanami and Izanagi. JAPAN: WHERE TWINCEST IS CANON SINCE THE CREATION OF THE WORLD.

... it explains SO MUCH.

...WHY AM I NOT WRITING?!

QotD:

Jörg is preparing a presentation for work. As a result, there are circuit diagrams of some nuclear power plant lying around on our living room table.
Me: ...so... are these state secrets too?
Jörg: Yes.
Me: Nifty. Can I make a livejournal user icon of them?
Jörg: Sure. There's a Russian translation of this anyway.

Okay.

Happy Smug Brit Day, everyone! Today more than ever.

I must admit that my only contribution to it was succumbing to that plotbunny (which, at least, has to do with a certain English author. And which WILL NOT GO AWAY. I tried to draw something to placate it; but it still wants to be written. And I cannot even write, really.). And drinking tea, of course, but I do that anyway. And discussing the London bombs with my parents (over tea and biscuits, at least). Otherwise, I have studied some Japanese (not enough), scanned a lot of stuff (too much) and helped my mom with the garden and with printing out stuff. Maybe the gardening bit would count, too? Although it didn't have anything to do with lawn?

Have also wasted time iconing. And because I cannot decide which one to use as a "trouble with the computer" icon, whee, a poll!
[Poll #529265]

Yesterday, I suddenly realized why the computer store Snogard has a dragon as its symbol. Because Snogard is Dragons read backwards. *headwalls*

Speaking of reading backwards, is there an online Hyakubikijiten somewhere? Because I can't find one. And there should be. There's one for Quenya. *pouts*

Yesterday, Jörg showed me the place where he works. We didn't have much time, so I didn't see much, but the parts I did see were fascinating. Nuclear power plant simulators are fun. Even dormant ones. Huge models from the olden days when you couldn't yet do computer-based calculations are pretty cool, too. I want a nuclear plant connexion scheme (<- there! That x! That's British!) LJ icon. But I'm not allowed to because that goes under state secrets. Bah.

Barbecue with the Kendô club yesternight was very enjoyable. Tasty, too. The funniest part was probably the totall random "Let's see how much Tolkien stuff we can enumerate before someone declares us crazy" thing with Cele and three guys whose names I can't remember. We got as far as naming all the Dwarves from the hobbit and all Fëanor's sons and all Finarfin's children until people decided we were delirious. (To be fair, Cele shouting, in one breath, "Maedhrosmaglorcelegormcaranthircurufinamrodamras" is a bit on the weird side and enough to make anyone think that she's crazy.)
Had to leave too soon and was unable to have any of the interesting alcohol (such as the self-made mead, or the vodka from Alexander's home town), but it was fun nonetheless.
I love my Kendô dôjô.
