Oh yeah. I can see a bunch of Númenorean bits and pieces, an attempt to make my personal illustrated handwritten Silmarillion and lots of unfinished/ unsatisfying paintings, drawings and stories start a revolution. Riiiight.

Personal illustrated handwritten Silmarillion? *makes googly Bambi eyes* Hey. I actually love things like that. *sheepish grin* Even if the artist isn't the caliber of Ted Naismith or Alan Lee, there's something strangely beautiful and intriguing about seeing people translate their own visions and love into image.

God knows I'm no artist myself, and wish I were... heh... Maybe if I weren't so easily embarassable and wanted to rip up everything I drew, I might practise enough to get somewhere. Sigh...

I'm certainly so far away from the likes of Alan Lee that I hardly dare working on the Silm, but I want to have a handwritten, ilustrated copy of that book, and since no one else is going to do it... *sigh*
I know too well about wanting to rip up everything I draw. It all looks perfect in my mind's eye, but when I try making it real, I fail dismally. I still try, though, because I still love doing it...

*thinking* Maybe you should just start with a small part of the whole book, and focus on that? I'd do a handwritten Akallabêth... I'm envisioning it with the same type of Celtic-ish script they showed Frodo writing in the Red Book at the end of ROTK.

On the other hand... hmmm... I guess one could also make the case that the illustrations didn't necessarily have to be perfect, because it's supposed to be mythology that's presumably been handed down through many generations, and probably copied by many scribes, some of whom put their own illustrations in. (Most medieval illustrated manuscripts don't exactly have the most accurate grasp of human proportions, even if they're colourful...) And one can suppose that the original text of the Akallabêth was perhaps written by Elendil or Isildur, or another family member, and even being no artist, perhaps they would have tried to put in a few visual records anyway, in attempt to capture Nùmenor at the height of its glory, before the memories had all passed from the minds of living men. I can imagine doing it with pen-and-ink perhaps...

I'll try watercolour, I guess... and ink for the script of course. But I suppose I'll only do one illustration for the beginning of every chapter, like some kind of cover...
But when I try only a small part first, I'll probably leave it at that. So I better start with Ainulindalë, so, since I love Akallabêth, I'll have to work my way through the whole book... talk about motivation ;)
Then again, maybe I'll make a separate book for Akallabêth, since it doesn't actually belong with the Quenta Silmarillion as such... but of course, neither do Ainulindalë and Valaquenta...
I guess I'll just see how much space there is in that book. Ah well.

I might actually go ahead and do a handwritten Akallabêth myself now that I've gotten the idea, eheh... Of course if you feel like that'd be ripping your idea off, I'd restrain myself. *sweatdrop* Though, I'm looking for some good Uncial fonts anyway (the style of the English letterings in the movie) so I can learn to write that style... maybe even for some of my own writings, heh.

I doubt that "my" idea was very original in the first place. Also met someone in spring who made his own handwritten Cirth Hobbit, so you might as well say I ripped off the idea there...
Which is to say, go ahead - at least that makes me not the only one crazy enough for that sort of stuff ;) But of course, I'd love to see it when you're done ...

*grins* Well, I'll scan it when I'm done, so everyone can laugh at my art. (Although it still won't be as bad as the art for "Lrod of teh RingXX0rs," which was purposely meant to be terrible.)

... but very amusing...

You do that, and I promise I won't laugh. If I do, you can take revenge by virtually tearing my stuff to pieces... Deal? ;)
