Even though pirates were actually bad, evil, thieving, cruel, heartless, despicableterrorists creatures and in no way admirable, and because it's actually the guys that hunted them down that were the good guys,
today is still Talk Like A Pirate Day
And because historical accuracy and cruelty and all that jazz can kiss my ass for today, and because I don't talk about Americans starting wars for fake reasons on September 11th, or their killing Indians in simple but creative ways on any day, because actually there's no group of people on this world that has an entirely clean slate, and it's idle to smart-ass about that, and because I'm a hopeless dork who sometimes likes to play with the devil:
ARRRRRR!
Because the point is just that it's fun. And there is nospoon point otherwise. And certainly no need for history lessons.

Obwohl Piraten eigentlich gemeine, böse, stehlende, grausame, herzlose, verachtenswerteTerroristen Kreaturen und keineswegs bewundernswert waren, und weil eigentlich die Leute, die sie gejagt haben, die Guten waren: Heute ist immer noch Talk Like A Pirate Day.
Und weil historische Korrektheit und Grausamkeit und der ganze Kram mich heute am Arsch lecken können, und weil ich auch am 11. September nicht über Amerikaner, die aus erlogenen Gründen Kriege anfangen, rede, oder überhaupt irgendwann über Amerikaner, die auf einfache, aber kreative Arten Indianer umbringen, rede, weil es nämlich, sachlich betrachtet, auf dieserallzu flachen Erdenscheibe Welt keine einzige Menschengruppe gibt, die eine absolut reinweiße Weste hat, und es müßig ist, darüber klugzuscheißen, und weil ich zu guter Letzt eine hoffnungslose Irre bin, die hin und wieder auch mal mit dem Teufel spielt:
ARRRRRR!
Weil der Punkt nämlich wirklich nur ist, dass es Spaß macht. Und dass es ansonsten keinen Punkt gibt. Und ganz sicher keinen Bedarf an Geschichtsunterricht.

Date: 2004-09-20 03:06 am (UTC)And maybe I'm just amused by something so crazy as a "Talk Like a Pirate Day" and thus slightly miffed if it gets, suddenly, dragged on a serious level, where it has never been meant to be. It's fun. It's not about glorifying pirates, and it's not about considering them heroes, and it's not about wanting to be a pirate themselves (though the concept of being free to go where you want to go and that sort of thing that often surrounds pirates; the sailing boats; islands and the Southern Sea) - it's just about talking in a manner that's unusual today, and enjoying it. Um. Yes.
But I'd never call you an 'Asche'. Or 'Arsch'. Or whatever. ;)
